GME Fellowship Expansion Grant - Rural Health Transformation Program

The Georgia Board of Health Care Workforce (GBHCW) announces the availability of grant funding to support the expansion of Graduate Medical Education (GME) Fellowship programs across rural Georgia through the Rural Health Transformation Program.

This initiative provides funding to rural hospitals, health systems, and academic partners to expand existing Fellowship programs by increasing Fellowship positions. The goal is to strengthen Georgia’s physician workforce by:

• Increasing training capacity in high-need specialties
• Expanding Fellowship opportunities in rural communities
• Improving long-term physician retention in underserved areas

Funding supports a net increase in filled Fellowship slots that serve rural counties and train physicians in core specialties critical to Georgia’s healthcare workforce needs.

Fellows supported under this program must complete training and commit to practicing in Georgia for a combined training and practice duration of at least five (5) years.

Program Requirements

• Programs must demonstrate a net increase in Fellowship positions using January 1, 2026, as the baseline.
• Funding is available only for new Fellowship slots that result in an actual increase in filled positions.

Available Slots & Funding Amount

• Up to 12 Fellowship slots are available statewide in approved areas.
• Each approved Fellowship slot will receive $200,000 per PGY year.
• Funding is distributed in two semi-annual payments of $100,000 each.
• Funding may be awarded for up to three (3) years per Fellowship slot.

Founded in 1996, the Community Foundation of South Georgia is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to making South Georgia a better place to live through effective philanthropy. We help individuals, families, nonprofit organizations and businesses establish and manage charitable funds that carry out their philanthropic interests. Serving a geographic area of 35 counties in South Georgia, we facilitate our donors’ charitable plans and goals by creating custom designed funds that meet their specific interests and ensure solid financial management and administration for each fund. 

Gaskins Environmental Scholarship

For graduating seniors from a high school located in South Georgia or college students who are currently enrolled in a college or university located in South Georgia and have attained at least a 2.5 GPA in high school or college.

High School student applicants must intend on majoring in Environmental Science. College student applicants must already be enrolled as an Environmental Science major. Environmental Science majors include but are not limited to Biology, Forestry, Wildlife or Botany. 

Awards are based on Academics, Leadership Qualities, Extracurricular School Activities, Community Service and Financial Need.

Scholarships

We are honored to be the stewards of over 90 scholarship funds established by philanthropically-minded individuals in our community. Generous donors entrust us to connect them to dynamic students to provide financial resources for their education through scholarships. Our donors establish scholarship funds with criteria they wish to be met by applicants. Our scholarship committee considers the criteria, evaluates the submitted applications, and chooses the best candidates for each scholarship.

Peoples Security Bank and Trust Company Scholarship Award

The Peoples Security Bank and Trust Company Scholarship Award consists of ten $1,000 scholarships awarded annually to graduating high school seniors who are customers of Peoples Security Bank and Trust Company, or who have a parent or guardian who is a customer, and who plan to pursue postsecondary education.

Kenneth E. & Shirley J. Morris Scholarship

Open to second year or higher undergraduate or graduate students who are residents of Ionia County studying Nursing and with a minimum 2.0 GPA.

Funding Innovative Research

Cannonball Kids’ cancer Foundation (CKc) prioritizes funding clinical trials, research that is nearing translation to a clinical trial, and young investigator grants.

Grants funded by CKc must be innovative and provide better quality of life or symptom relief than current treatments. 

When possible, CKc will prioritize funding research:

• with a focus on cancers that are under-funded or under-researched,
• with a focus on patient populations who are traditionally underserved.

When possible, CKc will prioritize funding researchers of diverse backgrounds.

For CKc, “innovation” means the invention or application of novel methods or treatments, specifically treatments that have fewer side-effects than standard care, increase a child’s quality of life, and/or create an option for care where there otherwise were few or none (either on primary diagnosis, relapse, or for recalcitrant cancers).

Research Grants

Grant Program: Young Investigator

$100,000 over 3 years

• PI must hold an academic appointment at the instructor level or higher
• PI must be within 5 years of completing a training fellowship in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology or a closely related discipline that has direct clinical contact with pediatric cancer patients
• Research must be within 2-3 years to translation to a clinical trial or already associated with a clinical trial

• Evidence of Mentor's commitment to the PI's career development plan
• Translational potential

Delta Kappa Gamma Scholarship Fund

Applicants must be students currently enrolled in a teaching credential program, current student teachers, current teacher interns, students enrolled in a speech therapy program, or students enrolled in a school psychology program. Colleges considered: CSU Stanislaus, U.C. Merced, U.O.P., UMass Global, Teachers College of San Joaquin, Sacramento State University and CSU East Bay.
