ADECA Alabama Weatherization Assistance Program

The Alabama Weatherization Assistance Program receives funding from the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. ADECA contracts with local community action agencies and the Central Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission to deliver weatherization assistance to low-income households in all 67 counties across the state.

The mission is to reduce energy costs for low-income households, particularly for the elderly, people with disabilities and families with children, by improving the energy efficiency of their homes while ensuring their health and safety. In order to receive assistance, the applicant’s income must not exceed 200% of the federally established poverty level.

Alabama Weatherization Assistance requires participants agree to minor alterations to their homes based on an assessment and energy audit conducted by trained professionals to determine the most cost-effective means of reducing energy consumption. Health and safety checks are also performed on the home.

ADECA Domestic Violence Trust Fund

Domestic Violence Trust Fund is a state funded grant that provides funds to assist certified DV Shelters in Alabama. This program is funded through the Marriage Licenses fees that are collected throughout the State of Alabama.

In order to receive these funds, the agency must be certified through the Alabama Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The agency must provide the minimum services required under Section 30-6-6 of the Code of Alabama, which includes, but is not limited to, information and referral services, counseling and case management services, temporary emergency shelter for more than 24 hours for adult victims and their accompanying children, a 24-hour hotline, training for law enforcement personnel, assessment and appropriate referral of resident children, outreach services as defined by standards for counties without a physical emergency shelter facility, educational services for community awareness relative to the incidence of domestic violence, the prevention of domestic violence, and the care, treatment, and rehabilitation for persons engaged in or subject to domestic violence.

The Domestic Violence Trust Fund operates on the state fiscal year calendar of October 1st- September 30th. Funds are distributed to the agency each quarter. Application for this grant is due annually.

Farley Moody Galbraith Fund

The Farley Moody Galbraith Fund was established by The Farley Moody Galbraith Foundation. Known as a philanthropic leader with a heart for her community, Mrs. Galbraith was an Anniston resident who served on numerous not-for-profit boards. Beyond her service to these organizations she provided generous financial support to not-for-profit organizations that served needy children, disadvantaged youth, and the arts.

Grant Purpose

The purpose of the FMGF is to provide charitable support to a wide variety of charitable needs. Consideration shall be given to Mrs. Galbraith’s historical charitable giving that supported needy children, disadvantaged youth, and the arts.

The Harland Jones Charitable Fund aims to support educational and developmental initiatives for youth aged 19 and younger in Northeast Alabama. Established by Mr. Jones, this fund promotes literacy, education, and safety, ensuring that children have the resources to thrive. The Nick's Kids Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness and resources for deserving organizations throughout the state of Alabama and beyond. As the official charity of Nick Saban and his family, Nick and Terry invest their time and energy in hosting luncheons, golf tournaments, scrimmages, and other events to benefit the cause.

Thanks to the generosity of the donors and the efforts of Nick and Terry Saban, the Nick's Kids Foundation has donated nearly 15 million dollars to deserving organizations and causes. Nick's Kids has completed projects including the career tech classrooms at the Tuscaloosa County Juvenile Detention Center, the Tuscaloosa Riverwalk Playground, renovating the STTEP Building of Brewer Porch Children’s Center, building 20 Habitat for Humanity homes (18 National Championship Homes & 2 SEC Championship Homes) and the Alberta School of Performing Arts playground. Nick’s Kids is also a major donor of the Tuscaloosa All-Inclusive Playground, the Saban Center, and the YMCA of Tuscaloosa.

In 1998, during their time at Michigan State University, Nick and Terry Saban established Nick's Kids Foundation in honor of the late Nick Saban, Sr. Since then, the Sabans have maintained and supported their charity throughout their careers at Louisiana State University, the Miami Dolphins and the University of Alabama.

Annual Funding Request Form

Nick’s Kids Foundation is a 501©3 nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children, family, teacher and student causes. The main goal continues to be to raise awareness and resources for deserving organizations throughout the state of Alabama and the Southeast.

The Annual Funding Request Form should be completed to request monetary assistance. Each year Nick's Kids holds a Giveaway Luncheon in early fall. During this luncheon a majority of funds for the fiscal year will be distributed.

The Alabama Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Program, established by the Children's Trust Fund, aims to prevent child abuse and neglect through essential community services. With over 40 years of dedication, the program offers various initiatives, including parenting education, home visiting, and mentoring, supported by state and federal funding. These efforts focus on strengthening family skills, promoting public awareness, and providing crisis care to protect vulnerable children and families throughout Alabama.

The FCIDD McNulty Scientist Award, offered by the Foundation for Children with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, provides $75,000 annually for three years to support interdisciplinary research on neurodevelopmental disorders. This award aims to enhance understanding of conditions like autism and intellectual disabilities, encouraging collaborations across at least two university departments. Since its inception in 2004, the Foundation has contributed over $3 million in grants and aims to improve the lives of individuals affected by developmental disabilities.

The Compass Society Grantmaking, part of the Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville, aims to foster high-impact, collaborative projects that enhance the community's quality of life. Grants of $50,000 will support innovative initiatives across various focus areas, including arts, education, and health. Priority is given to projects demonstrating significant community collaboration and visionary goals. This funding opportunity invites organizations to partner and create sustainable changes for the Greater Huntsville area.

Fatherhood Request for Proposal (RFP)

This application packet contains guidelines for submitting an application to ADCANP for a performance-based contract to provide opportunities to families with custodial fathers and mothers. Activities (training, workshops, conferences, counseling, etc.) should encourage and facilitate active parenting by non-custodial fathers/mothers. The goals are to increase the parents’ involvement in their children’s lives, provide employment training and skills, and increase child support payments/collection. Federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds for this competitive selection process are provided to ADCANP through a partnership with the Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR).

The target population for Fatherhood Programs should include (but are not limited to) non-custodial and custodial mothers and fathers who:

• Are unemployed or underemployed (income less than 200% of the federal poverty level)
• Lack a high school diploma or GED
• Lack the skills to obtain gainful employment
• Males or females over the age of 18 with children
• Reside in the state of Alabama

The TANF funds available for these initiatives will address the following goals:

• To gain employment skills and certifications that will allow participants to secure employment
• that can provide for the family and promote self-sufficiency
• To find and retain suitable employment
• To improve awareness of participants’ roles in the lives of their child(ren)
• To establish high-quality, emotionally supportive relationships with their children
• To pay child support and provide other financial support for their child(ren)
• To support Re-Entry services for formerly incarcerated parents

The Rotary Children's Foundation Grant focuses on assisting local charitable organizations that support mentally and physically challenged children in Southwest Alabama.
