Who We Are

We are an organization full of dedicated individuals who work every day to improve health in the state of Kansas. We dream big, promote bold visions and truly believe that it’s possible for Kansas to someday lead the nation in health.

But, it’s only possible with a broad network of effective partnerships across the state. We work closely with other health foundations, nonprofit groups, community foundations, state agencies, universities, hospitals, communities and advisory groups to develop programs and initiatives and to find answers to complex health issues.

And we will continue to form and strengthen partnerships with more Kansas organizations and communities.

Kansas Innovation Fund

Are you a visionary, a problem solver, or someone who is passionate about creating positive change in your community? Is your organization open to exploring new strategies and taking bold steps toward innovation? Have you come across ideas or projects from community members, youth or nonprofit staff that you are eager to implement but lack the necessary resources? If you answered yes to any of these questions, we invite you to consider applying for the Kansas Innovation Fund.

KHF will provide up to $5,000 for each approved idea/project. Our goal is to provide a funding opportunity for nonprofits looking to explore new strategies to solve complex issues.

How the Opportunity Works

To enable eligible Kansas nonprofits to test innovative ideas to address health and health equity, KHF is providing mini grants of up to $5,000. The mini grants will support a range of ideas from different sectors that address the underlying factors causing poor health outcomes and health disparities.

Criteria for Grant Selection

Does your funding request:

• Make it possible for more Kansans to have the opportunity to live a healthy life, or improve overall health?
• Propose a new and innovative project for your organization?
• Benefit Kansans or Kansas communities?

The Mount Carmel Foundation Legacy Grant is dedicated to enhancing healthcare in Southeast Kansas, continuing a legacy of philanthropy since 1983. It supports nonprofit healthcare providers with project budgets ranging from $5,000 to $100,000. Funded initiatives have included advanced medical technology, patient care enhancements, and facility upgrades. Organizations aligned with Catholic teachings are prioritized, particularly those serving Bourbon, Cherokee, and Crawford Counties, ensuring vital healthcare access for the community.

The Cloud County Public Health Fund, established by the Kansas Health Foundation, aims to enhance the quality of life in Cloud County. It supports local health initiatives through grants, scholarships, and awards. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits, educational institutions, and government entities. The fund prioritizes projects that promote public health and well-being. However, it does not support political projects or those with operating deficits, ensuring funds contribute to meaningful community impact.

The Dylan Meier Get Busy Livin’ Foundation (GBL Foundation) offers Youth Volunteerism Grants aimed at fostering community service in Southeast Kansas. Established in 2011, the foundation champions values like adventure and generosity, inspired by Dylan's legacy. Grants support 501(c)(3) nonprofits, schools, government units, and religious institutions. Applications are accepted in March, allowing young volunteers to engage actively in their communities and develop leadership skills through meaningful service.

The Helen S. Boylan Foundation, established in 1982, aims to enhance community life in Carthage, Missouri, the Greater Kansas City Area, and Lindale, Texas. It provides quarterly grants to non-profit organizations focused on arts, education, health, and wellness. The foundation prioritizes innovative projects and multi-year funding for initiatives benefiting local citizens. Eligible recipients include 501(c)(3) nonprofits, while grants for individuals or sectarian activities are excluded. Proposals should focus on new initiatives or capital improvements.

The Childcare Grant from the Patterson Family Foundation supports organizations in Kansas and western Missouri that enhance childcare services. Eligible applicants include nonprofits, school districts, and government entities focused on expanding childcare capacity, improving facilities, and making services more affordable for working families. Applications will be accepted through a Letter of Intent starting April 1, 2025, with a commitment to fostering thriving rural communities. The foundation emphasizes collaboration and sustainability in childcare initiatives.

The Patterson Family Foundation is inviting innovative proposals to enhance community engagement in rural areas. With a focus on projects that foster long-term involvement from all generations, the Foundation aims to support initiatives that contribute to the mission of thriving rural communities. To apply, organizations must be located within the Foundation's Kansas and western Missouri catchment and possess nonprofit status. Early submission of the Letter of Intent is highly recommended for timely review.

The Patterson Family Foundation is dedicated to fostering economic opportunity in rural areas through innovative proposals. They prioritize funding for regional innovation hubs and strategies aimed at industry diversification. Organizations eligible for support must be located in or serve communities in Kansas or western Missouri. With a strong commitment to education and community resilience, the Foundation aims to empower future generations while enhancing local economies.

The Global Climate Challenge, organized by MIT Solve, seeks innovative technology-driven solutions to combat climate change, which disproportionately affects vulnerable communities. Special emphasis is placed on supporting Black and Latine innovators in the US. Selected teams will receive financial support, fostering impactful innovations that promote equity and sustainability in climate action.

The Global Economic Prosperity Challenge seeks innovative solutions that leverage technology to enhance peace and prosperity. With a focus on addressing conflict, promoting financial inclusion, and generating economic opportunities, the challenge aims to empower communities facing systemic inequities. Notably, it encourages Black and Brown innovators in the U.S. to apply, offering support through various prizes. The initiative underscores the importance of ethical technology in fostering resilience and stability in today's complex landscape.

The Mader Foundation Grant supports programs aimed at improving the lives of children in Greater Kansas City. Eligible organizations must possess 501(c)(3) status, demonstrate financial transparency, and ensure funding directly benefits youth K-12. Grants are not provided for salaries, operating expenses, or funding for organizations with restricted membership. Applications require a completed budget form and must be submitted annually. This grant focuses on arts, education, health, and welfare initiatives.

The GSCF Kansas Health Foundation Fund supports public health initiatives in Saline County, KS, focusing on healthy lifestyles and preventative programs. Grants are available to 501(c)(3) nonprofits, educational institutions, government entities, and religious organizations. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations and tribal nations that collaborate to serve underrepresented communities. Funding priorities emphasize collaboration, unique health equity solutions, and leveraging additional resources.

The Preserve Route 66 Grant Fund offers financial support to public agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofit organizations aiming to preserve historic places along Route 66. This initiative prioritizes projects that enhance underrepresented narratives, including those related to diverse communities. Grants typically range from $2,500 to $10,000, with a focus on activities that restore, rehabilitate, or educate about significant historical sites, ensuring that this iconic American highway's legacy is maintained for future generations.

The Kansas City Chiefs Charity Game Grant offers a unique opportunity for a 501(c)(3) organization in the greater Kansas City area to partner with the Chiefs for a major fundraising event. The selected organization will receive 90% of the game proceeds, with a commitment to support children and families in crisis. This partnership includes game tickets, promotional support, and the chance to expand fundraising capacity through a well-defined plan, ensuring a significant community impact.

The Historic Economic Asset Lifeline (HEAL) Program, initiated by the Kansas Department of Commerce, aims to revitalize underutilized downtown buildings in rural Kansas.
